Rohan’s Red Car

Rohan was a little boy who lived in a happy yellow house. He had big, curious eyes and a smile that was always ready. But Rohan had one big problem: he did not like to share.

His favourite thing in the whole world was a shiny red toy car. It had silver stripes and could zoom very fast across the floor. He also had a big box of colourful building blocks, a fluffy teddy bear named Bholu, and a set of crayons that smelled like fruit.

One sunny afternoon, Rohan was playing with his red car in the garden. “Vroom, vroom!” he said, making it race around the flowers.

Just then, his new friend from next door, little Priya, came to visit. Priya had two bright ribbons in her hair and she loved to play.

“Hello, Rohan!” said Priya. “Your red car looks so fun! Can I play with it for a little while?”

Rohan’s smile disappeared. He quickly hid the car behind his back. “No! It’s mine! You might break it,” he said, his voice sounding cross.

Priya’s happy face became sad. “Oh,” she whispered. “Okay.” She sat on the grass, watching Rohan play all by himself.

Rohan tried to play, but it wasn’t fun anymore. He made the car go ‘vroom’, but the sound felt lonely. He looked at Priya, who was drawing circles in the dirt with a stick. She looked very sad.

Rohan’s mother was watching from the window. She came out into the garden, carrying a plate. On the plate was a big, warm, yummy gulab jamun, covered in shiny syrup.

“Rohan,” said his mother kindly. “I have one gulab jamun for you.”

Rohan’s eyes lit up. “For me! Thank you, Maa!” He reached for the sweet.

But his mother held the plate back. “You can eat this all by yourself. It will be very sweet. But tell me, will eating it alone make you as happy as sharing a laugh with a friend?”

Rohan looked at the gulab jamun. He looked at Priya, who was still sitting alone. He thought about how he was playing all by himself and how it wasn’t fun.

A new thought came into his head.

He walked over to Priya, his red car in his hand. “Priya,” he said softly. “Would you like to play with my car? We can make a long road for it with the blocks.”

Priya’s face lit up like a little diya lamp. “Really? Oh, yes!”

Rohan’s mother smiled. She went inside and came back with two small bowls. She had cut the one big gulab jamun into two pieces, one for each friend.

Rohan and Priya built a tall tower with the blocks and then a long, winding road. They took turns zooming the red car. “Vroom! Vroom!” they shouted together, laughing. The garden was filled with happy sounds.

Rohan felt a warm, happy feeling in his heart. It was much, much sweeter than the gulab jamun.

He learned that toys and sweets are fun, but sharing them with a friend makes everything twice as nice and your heart feel twice as big.

Moral: Sharing our toys and our treats makes playtime much more sweet!
